Issue with PayPal or my credit cards?

in Credit cards
I'm trying to buy something for 211 euros on ebay paying through paypal. Normally paypal lets you pay in the non-GBP currency so that your card issuer does the conversion which in my case means 0% loading fee as i usually pay by clarity mastercard or lloyds avios amex or mastercard. But for someone bizarre reason today, paypal is insisting on doing its OWN currency conversion to GBP (which is pants) on all cards except on my clarity card. Is anyone else experiencing this? In the end i paid using my clarity card but would have been nice to get the Avios miles if i could have paid by the Amex card. Did call up PayPal but as usual their p1ss poor support couldn't help me.

I've had this problem before. I've normally just checked out as a guest instead and its worked out ok then.0

I vaguely remember reading that Paypal allow creating 'wallets' in different currencies when receiving payments. Can it be something similar when making payments? I.e. you pay from € wallet and your bank/CC does the conversion?0

Not when paying from a card.
There seems to be an issue with paypal forcing DCC in certain circumstances.0
