Hired suits for OH, his BM, my 2 sons (1 gave me away, 1 gave the FoB speech).

All from Debenhams as they could go their local store for measuring & to collect.

When we got married, my husband bought his kilt and plaid (the material that gets clipped onto his jacket and hangs over his shoulder and down his back). He had them made to measure in his family tartan as he wanted something special he could keep forever. He also bought his own shirt and accessories (sporran, belt, brooch for the plaid and the things that go in his socks....). He hired the shoes and the bow tie thingy. He has worn every part of his wedding outfit to 2 further weddings, so even though it all cost a fortune, he is getting the wear of it all :)

The two best men had their whole outfits hired. In Scotland, you can hire everything from the shoes and socks to the shirts from the kilt hire shops. No chance I was buying anything for them when I could hire the lot from one shop :rotfl:
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

Only had the chaps making speeches. Dad wanted to wear his tails (having found he could no longer buckle up his kilt, ahem!) so husband hired a suit & best man wore his finest (something in finance, loves his clothes, probably cost more than the reception!)

Had my husband been a suit wearing sort, we'd have bought him one but he was clear that "this dressing up bit" was just to please me!

(And I dressed up to please my parents. Blimey. Opportunity for a runaway wedding missed, but got to see *loads* of family so happy day & worth the fuss.)

Should my lads tie the knot, I'll encourage them to have one good suit anyway & either buy with an eye on selling on or replace it. Under 15 chaps, anything much more than a waistcoat & tie over school trous & shirt is usually child cruelty or demanded by their mother...
  • We have hired 7 suits from Debenhams as the groom goes free and because we ordered them in December they had an early bird booking discount of 10% of helped us save a little bit more

  • Hi
I got my suits Tailored with a company called Mr-Robertson
It was great because we decided we weren't fans of the Morning suit or hiring them as my now husband has wide shoulders but a slim waist and they just weren't fitting right.
We decided we would rather get a lovely tailor made suit for a great price and he would be able to wear again. It was £295 for a 3 piece suit, which is amazing and even better was that we had the two fathers, my husbands younger brother, his best man and an ushers suits made too, so they done my husbands suit for free.
I'm on the outskirts of London and they came to fit the entire wedding party, show us the fabrics and we got all the linings and waistcoat backs to match the bridesmaids dresses. They looked amazing, even if I do say so myself.
What was really nice was the groom felt involved even if I had the ultimate decision haha no but was really nice to get him to have these choices.
I'm sure they do visits all over the country too, or you can actually design your suit online. I really would recommend them here is their website mr-Robertson .co.uk
Best of luck in your search!

For our wedding in 1975, best man and I were in morning dress pale grey, the 2 Dads and the 3 ushers in morning dress black - all hired.

For our daughters wedding this May, groom has decided that all of us will be in morning dress pale grey (groom, best man, 2 Dads and 3 ushers), but groom and best man have one combination of waistcoat/tie colours, Dads have another, ushers different again.

All will be hired - but search around because not all hire suits are equal quality. We're not getting any deal (buy 5 get 1 free etc) so this lot is costing quite a lot - but nowhere near what her dress is costing (actually a lot closer to what I've had to spend on the "mother of the bride" dresses, hatinators, shoes, handbags etc!

Wow - my groom is going to be wearing jeans, a dress shirt and a waistcoat. No jacket because I love the look of waistcoat over shirt (mid September so it should be kind of warm) and jeans because he wants to wear cowboy boots, and I think they'd look tacky under a suit.

The rest of the men will be wearing whatever they feel like!
Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A

Bought other half's suit from Moss - it's GORGEOUS. I'm seriously going to have to up my game! We bought a lovely navy blue DKNY suit, DKNY shirt, a lovely ice-blue tie and matching pocket hankerchief. It was 3 for 2 on accessories so we also got a navy blue tie thrown in. It came to £345 altogether - which was a bit more than we wanted to pay but the shape of suit we went for can be worn for work/meeting in future so will get more than it's fair share of use.

He looks so handsome! It's supposed to be the groom who's jaw drops when he sees the bride but I'm pretty sure i'm going to be the one speechless looking at him! XD ha ha.

We're not buying anybody else's suit. Moss have put his name on their 'guestbook' and if anybody else needs a suit they can go in and quote our name and they'll get a discount on suits.
