Suits?

What did/are you lots doing with regards to the suits? Are the groom and his men wearing their own suits, hired suits, bought suits? All the same, all different?

    Hired suits for me.

I did look at buying but we're paying about £80 each to hire and to buy the cheapest we could get was £150+ with us then still having to buy ties and shirts.

Also, the bought suits in that price bracket were all very cheap looking.

We've all got the same suits but I've got my own tailored shirt instead of the one provided with the suit hire.

  • Ours are all wearing their own - our colour scheme is black, white and red so we'll ask the groomsmen and dads to wear a black suit (which they're likely to already have) and then we will buy them a white shirt and bright red tie.

I think OH's dad is a bit miffed he can't wear his tail suit though ;)

I'm asking because we are budgeting quite abit for suits as OH wanted a nice suit to keep forever (as I would my dress) but I don't think we should be buying the groomsmen their suits as it will cost about £800+ for all 4 people. Plus our flower girls, and my dress. It's just stupid money on outfits none of us will wear again!

  • We are renting also at around £80 per suit - We have H2B, Best Man, 3 ushers, 1 Dad, 3 brothers and 4 children to get.

We did decide that rather than paying to hire a full childs suit (its an August wedding and I don't want them in jackets at that time of the year, its stuffy and they will be uncomfortable) we would hire only the cravat and waistcoat and they can have new white shirts and grey trousers bought which will then be suitable for School afterwards - this will work out £25 for rentals and shirts and trousers which would be bought anyway!

Oh I'm really chuffed he's actually paying an interest. We were discussing songs and because I didn't like 1 of his choices he said "this wedding is about me and you and this song is one of my favourites so I want a part of me in this wedding!!!" Lol bless him

I see suits as a bit different from the dress though as they're easier to wear again, especially if you get a classic design/colour. Quite a few of my male friends who are married bought their wedding suits and still wear them for other weddings or big occasions, but I only know one person who still wears her wedding dress and she didn't really have a conventional dress to start with.

I think my OH might buy himself a new suit because he only has one decent one - he's very skinny and most shop-bought suit jackets are way too big for him even in the smallest size. My dad will probably get himself a new suit too as he did that for both my sisters' weddings.

Oh and I forgot to say in my original post that if my nephew is the ring bearer he can have a mini suit if he wants (he'll be seven when we get married) which we will pay for, because he's probably not going to wear it again. If he doesn't then it'll just be black trousers, white shirt and (if he wants to wear it) a red tie.

After a quick chat to OH we have decided to hire, but the shop near him had quoted £500 for 4 suits!! That seems expensive to me
