Glasses insurance

Hi, I get my glasses from the Outside Clinic who come to my house. Today my new glasses were delivered by a man who kept trying to sell a "Care Plus Scheme" for a one off payment of £20. I kept refusing and he kept on telling me what the benefits are and several times he said "you don't understand" and repeating what he had already said. I refused to buy this scheme that he insisted was not insurance.

Can anyone tell me if it is legally insurance?

Well its a form of insurance ...

"CarePlus covers the cost of repair of all accidental damage and breakages " for 24 months - for £20 upfront apparently

Cannot say without seeing sight of documentation on it.

On the surface it sounds like insurance but then so does the Dixons "whatever happens" but theirs legally isnt and is a "care plan" instead.

Thanks for replying. I have been wearing glasses without insurance or schemes for over 50years. It seems to be that everything comes with schemes and insurances these days but it was most unpleasant to have the hard sell in my own home.
  • And depending on the company many are very reasonable about these things.

The mrs got some glasses from Specsavers and the screw in one arm kept coming out and they replaced each time for free. She then sat on them and snapped the arm off and they replaced the frames for free, they didnt do that frame any more so allowed her to pick any other frames just as long as the existing lenses could be ground down to fit them.

The reality at the moment is that people have more and more ability to compare headline prices and are less and less loyal to brands. Its somewhat inevitable that companies therefore are doing whatever they can to reduce the headline price but then having to find add ons and up sells etc to compensate for the loss of revenue hence we now have so many more admin fees, cancellation fees, auto renewals, care packs etc
