Advice on plastering

Options
We've just done a garage and loft conversion (standard 18ft size garage) and now need both rooms plasting.

We have had a quote at £1,000 which seemed more than I expected - is this a reasonable?

Also, our ceilings throughout the house have a slightly ripped artexed effect which we would love to get rid of - someone told me that you could buy some product which just loosens the artex then you can scrape it off - ready to be re-skimmed by a plasterer? Has anyone tried it? Sounds very messy to me !!

If you are talking about all walls (8) and ceilings (2) then 1K is not to far out An average wall say 12ft about £80/100, it may sound alot but if you have walls that are all over the place then expect to pay about that. The artex ceilings we us a scraper to remove all the high spots then plaster skim (average ceiling about £140), prices can differ depends on where you live.
