Hello. Me again. :o Fed up yet? :D

I bought the original Spyder off of Ebay. However, I'm having trouble getting it to work.

I'm running Windows 8, so that might be part of the problem but I'm not sure where to start to get it to work.

The software says that the sensor cannot be detected. I've followed the instructions to the letter.

I cannot find anywhere on the website about how to get it to work with Windows 8 and PhotoCal (which is the software it came with) isn't supported anymore. I've sent a support ticket but I haven't heard back yet so thought I'd ask here.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried all USB ports on my laptop and I know the ports work because other devices will work when using them.

At the end of my tether!

ETA: The device doesn't have an exclamation mark in device manager so I assume my laptop is recognising it!

If it's a very old version of Spyder you may well be flogging a dead horse trying to use it with Windows 8 because the company probably haven't updated drivers for that model ... but just in case, have you tried updating the driver via Device Manager?

Have you tried running the software in Compatibility Mode? ... right click on the program icon > Settings > Compatibility > and select maybe Windows XP.

    Hey Dave.

Yep, tried all that. :( The support guy got back to me and said he can't even reproduce the license key and that because it's over 10 years old it's not even going to be suited to my new laptop anyway and he recommended buying one of the newer models. The only reason I bought the original Spyder was because it was cheap! Le sigh. Now I'm going to have to go through the whole rigmarole of sending it back to the seller I bought it from on Ebay. :(
