This last week Dexter,my 3 1/2 yr old Apricot Siamese, has had all his molars removed as one had decayed and was causing him problems and the other were going the same way. All his canines are fine.
Costs in total was £233. this includes the post op medications and the overnight stay. All in all I thought it was fairly reasonable.
He has to go back tomorrow for a check but there has been no problems at all, he eats fine and seems back to his normal nutty self.0 -
It never fails to amaze me how the general public seem to know more about how veterinary practice works, or at least they think they do, better than the vets themselves. As pointed out above, medicine is expensive and were it not for the good old NHS then people would be more aware of the true cost. Owning a pet is a privilege, not a right. If you can't afford it, including vet bills, then you really should think twice about owning one.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Where I live a visit to the GP is charged at around £50. There is no NHS. When you think how long it takes a vet to qualify and the skills they have to have why shouldn't they be entitled to charge a fair hourly rate for their services. Our local vets invest heavily in their practice to provide the best care they can for our pets. A recent technique in stitching used on our cat is the same stuff as used on humans and it costs! Unfortunately as has been said, people are shielded from the real cost of healthcare because of the NHS.0

Don't know about your area but the Easipet chain are cheaper than most vets since they do not do it for profit. A 4 tooth extraction there cost me under £200 IICR.
They don't have many branches though unfortunately. Do hope they expand.
Vets4Pets I think is also a bit cheaper than your average vet practice but only used them once so not sure about their entire price range.0
