D'oh, I did a silly thing!!

I've just posted some ebay items and one parcel was less than I first thought, so being a lovely person I decided to refund the difference (£2.50). I put in the amount I wanted to refund on paypal and clicked ok. When I went back to the overview I noticed it said I'd refunded the whole amount :eek:
I've sent the buyer a note to ask them if they could send the payment again, minus the £2.50, but I won't hold my breath.
It wasn't for a lot of money, under £10 but still a very silly thing to do. In my defence I am poorly

Oh no! I hope they pay you again0

I like to think that most buyers are honest and would send you the money again. Have you sent them a revised invoice?0

Oh poor you! I hope that your niceness is repaid by the buyer doing the right thing and giving you the money back again. Good luck and hope you're better soon xMany thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!

Not yet. I sent them a note through ebay and said if there are any problems let me know. If they do then I'll send oneMortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £81,279.78 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £180 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £195.89 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £1,406.55 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
I'm not sure it was your fault completely. I refunded some postage this morning too, and just before I clicked to confirm, noticed that it was about to refund the whole lot. I was able to go back and correct it and it appears to have gone through ok now, but it gave me a bit of a start.
I'm almost positive that I had put the correct amount in to refund when I filled it out and, as it looks like I'm not the only one, it might be worthwhile anyone else who has made refunds to check the correct sum has been returned.
SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0 -
I did this recently when I had I disturbed night, due to little one, and thought I'd get ahead of the game...
There really ought to be a big, last chance, warning sign saying something like, "You are about to refund the whole payment amount. OK?"
I searched for what to do, which is basically nothing - apart from contact the buyer - and soon saw that this is something people are doing all the time.0 -
I've just spent the last half an hour on the phone to paypal and my bank because the refund is pending as I don't have enough funds in paypal as I withdrew it last night!! Basically I have to wait for money to come out of my bank account and go into paypal before the refund gets given. Paypal can't stop it but my bank can when they've got the request (they haven't yet).
Paypal sent the request around 11.40am and my bank still haven't got it.
The Payal bloke said he is going to email the buyer and explain what's happening and to send a revised payment once he gets the refund. IF I manage to stop the money coming out of my bank then the refund will be cancelled and I can then send a refund of the correct amount to the buyer.
This is turning out to be one big headacheMortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £81,279.78 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £180 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £195.89 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £1,406.55 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -

You can cancel the Direct Debit you have with Paypal at the bank - some banks although allow to to suspend Direct Debits without cancelling.
If you do that, the refund will show as 'failed' and you can just send the postage refund again.
If you cancel the DD, Paypal will remove it from your account and you'll need to set it up again.0 -

Paypal will also charge you £5 if the payment fails.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
