You can cancel the Direct Debit you have with Paypal at the bank - some banks although allow to to suspend Direct Debits without cancelling.

This is what I'm hoping to do tomorrow. My bank haven't received the request from paypal yet so they can't do anything. Once it's received I'll do that.

Paypal will also charge you £5 if the payment fails.

Oh, I hope not, but if they do then it will be a lesson learnt for me :(

Good news (ish). The buyer has paid the revised amount, but the refund hasn't gone through. I've let them know as much as I can and hopefully it will all be fine :o

so your buyer has paid again without getting the refund? Very trusting buyer!
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked

I know, I do feel guilty about this :o. I rang my bank again today and they still haven't received the payment request. And it's unlikely they will as I don't have a bank card with them, it's an online account only. I'm just going to have to wait for the payment to "fail" and then refund again, as now I have enough money in paypal.

Well, as I thought, today I got an email to say my payment request had been declined. So I have now resent the refund to the buyer and hopefully this whole mess is behind me :o.
