Are upright hoovers ok for laminate floors?

Need a new hoover and am looking at both cylinder & upright ones.
Never had an upright one before, but not sure if someone said they were no good on laminate floors. Is this true?

I had a Hoover, now have a Vax. Both uprights & both have/had hard floor settings. Neither any good.
I always end up using the cylinder vac, or sweeping the bits missed by the upright into a pile & using the removable hose.0
