Tv broke 2 days after warranty ran out.

We bought an LCD TV from sainsburys last year.
The TV came with a years warranty. 2 days after the warranty ran out a huge green and blue band started showing all along the bottom of the screen and the sound started going lower and lower to the point where we could barely hear it.
The store we got it from said they couldnt do anything because the warranty had ran out 2 days earlier.
Got in touch with sainsburys via email and they sent an email back saying if we got an engineers report stating what was wrong with the TV, sent it to them either via post or email they would repair the TV for nothing and replace the £50 we paid for the report because the warranty had only just ran out and in their eyes a TV should last a bit longer than a year.
Got the engineers report, paid the £50 for it, sent it to sainsburys and now they are saying they will pay for part of the cost of repair and could not give us back the £50 for the report because we have no warranty!
I assume as there is no warranty theres not much we can do?

Tell them you are making a claim under the sale of goods act.
Which will be dealt with via the county court if they reject your resolvable approaches to allow them rectify the situation.Be happy...;)0 -

It's depends what the report said. More info is required from the OP before they think about possible court action.
As Sainsburys are offering to pay for part of the repair, I'm wondering if there is more than 1 fault, and 1 of them that the report doesn't say is inherent.0 -

how long does a warranty extend, 2 days, 2 weeks 2 months, there has got to be a cut off point.0 -
