Car insurance - moving abroad

Hi,
In my first year of driving I was rubbish and had to claim on the insurance which resulted in my insurance premium hitting the roof and I stupidly decided to drive without insurance (for which I have now learned my lesson and will not be doing again) due to these points I am therefore unable to afford insurance again.
However, I am moving to Canada in one year's time and was wondering whether (similarly to a credit rating), I will be able to start fresh and get affordable car insurance - or will this follow me even if I do move abroad?
Thanks

Your past will have no bearing in Canada- I believe their car insurance is a bit different, you insure yourself, not the car, so you are covered to drive almost anything.
Do add moose insurance though.0 -

Its him that's the problem, not the car.
OP, you'll need to try a Canadian insurer to see if they ask about foreign licence points and accidents.0 -
But would they need to "declare" their history as the Canadian company wouldn't be able to check the history?0

I don't know. Best to ask on MSE Canada or maybe an expat forum.
Do you exchange your licence? Will it still show anything?
Depends on the questions asked - just because they may not be able to check history doesn't mean 'your past will have no bearing in Canada'.0 -
Only one way to find out- get quotes.

I used this Toronto postcode for a quote- M5H 2S8 and using my details I was quoted $1,679* which is about £930!!!!!!!! I pay £200 in the UK.0
