How long can a default be added to your credit file???

Options
Hello super helpful ones...

I know that someone on here ALWAYS has an answer for me so I was wondering if anyone can tell me the answer to the following query...??

I had a debt which defaulted in June 2008. I denied the debt and stated that this is not my debt. I wrote to the company and asked them to prove it. They stated that they didn't have proof as such but confirmed a bank account number and claimed it to be mine. Then I logged on to my credit report only to see that they have only JUST added the default to my credit file. So on my file it states default date as 26/06/2008 but it was only added to my file 14/01/2014.

My query is firstly is this legal to wait until almost 6 years before adding it to my credit file? My understanding was that there was a 6 year limit before old defaulted debts dropped off your file so does this mean that this wont drop off until 14/01/2020 or should it come off on 26/06/2014 as that will have been 6 years since default?

Any ideas please anyone??

6 years from default date, however they have the option to go for a ccj before then
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

It will drop off in July this year based on that default date.
