Well we have done what we swore we wouldn't and fallen in love with a house. We offered slightly over the asking price on Saturday and said it was on condition that they take the house off the market and cancel all other viewings immediately. The estate agent said it was a very good offer and asked if it was our final offer and we said yes.

Well, they have responded that they are happy with the offer but that the is another potential buyer on her way over from France who is coming in to view on Monday and they can't get in touch with her in time to cancel! Sounds a bit fishy to me and we know they had another viewing right after ours plus a couple who had viewdjust before us and said they liked it.

We want the house very badly as it is by far the best house we've seen, and we've seen quite a few. We would be willing to pay more but do we ring the estate agent to ask her not to accept another offer without talking to us or to just up our offer on Monday morning? Or do we just wait and see?

Our house is sold stc which is due to happen Feb 5. We have a mortgage agreed in principle and are in rented. Any advice very gratefully received. Thank you.

I do wish some people would proof read their posts before hitting send :rotfl:

Don't see the problem - lots of people get angry with prospective buyers, and many people keep Jews as pets - they are far less messy than dogs, and very peaceful on Fridays.
  • Yes okay very funny, any advice please??

Make the best offer you feel you can.

But it's still their property and up to them who they sell to, who they allow to view.

    Deposit: £23'000

the question ''is that your best offer?'' is the must stupid one, specially when asked by the estate agent

hold your nerve ...specially since you paid over the asking price and they don't want to get it of the market . you can submit another ofer if somebody overbids you...they ll let you know as they would try to get as much pounds as they can ! estate agents are not racists ;) the only honest thing they always do is sell to highest bidder

Don't contact a them again!! You have said it's your final offer. By calling you are signalling you can and will pay more. If you say that to an estate agent then you can gaurantee there will be a 'higher' offer pretty quickly, whether one exists or not.

If they recieve a higher offer they will contact you anyway to up yours. Best bet is wait it out and maybe call back in a few days to ask if your offer has been formally accepted and if the house is off the market.
  • SG27 I think you're spot on actually - if they have invented someone coming from France to view (which I suspect they have) then they certainly aren't above inventing a higher offer. We will hold our nerve.

God willing, you are also in an excellent place with your sale and the probable ability to be flexible about an actual completion date.

    Others may not be.

    Stand firm.
