Sharm-EL-Sheikh

My partner & I are considering a week's holiday to Sharm-El-Sheikh in March, but would like some advice before booking.
What's the best resort?
Should we do BB/HB or AI?
Depending on the hotel, we've noticed 4* AI seems to be of a different standard and vast price difference, any obvious reason?
Are 4 & 5* hotels of a good standard?
No doubt we'll be back with more questions :rotfl:

i think you get what you pay for all inclusive, i would say some 5* are better than others we have stayed at jaz mirabel beach 5* but not as good as https://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/africa/egypt/egypt-red-sea/sharm-el-sheikh/hotels/reef-oasis-blue-bay-resort-and-spa/facilities in my opinion, not the cheapest but a nice hotel0

I would also reiterate you get what you pay for.
I've only stayed at Hiltons in Egypt (and would recommend all I've stayed at).
Personally I would try and go for a high star international branded hotel as they will wash all salad with bottle water etc
Another thing I'd check for would be shade. Friends of mine went to a 5* resort that was one we;d not heard off and it had absolutely no umbrellas or anything offering shade, depending when you can go the sun can be really ferocious so I'd make sure simple things like this are in place wherever you book.0 -
We have stayed at the Jaz Mirabel Beach in Nabq Bay four times and really liked it. It is good value for money, and we thought the food was good. One of the best things about it, is that there are plenty of sun beds and no getting up at stupid o'clock to get one. It really depends what you are prepared to pay, but as we have always been in February or March for a week and as it is not our main holiday, we don't want to pay over the odds.0

Ditch Sharm and head North to Dahab.
Best place in Egypt (And I have been to just about every corner of the place)0 -
We went to Sharm last Easter. I researched really carefully before choosing a hotel. The most common weakness that I spotted then and have observed in reviews across a lot of hotels subsequently is in relation to the quality of the food.
We loved our hotel but the quality of the food was lacking, compared to everything else. 5* in Sharm is a lower standard than elsewhere.0 -
You've all given us a lot to think aboutI'm hopeless with technology, in addition, I suffer with MH issues, what may appear simple, I struggle with, may I ask, please be patient, thank you0

Sharm has very much been built to a price point.
Remember that star ratings are predominately about facilities and not quality. Things do vary by country but looking at one version the only difference between a 4* and 5* is:
1) 24hr reception with multilingual staff
2) Concierge service
3) 24hr room service
4) In room safe
5) Express ironing and shoe shining
6) Evening turndown available
The place could still be a dive but as long as it offered all of these, on top of that required for the lower levels, then its 5*
Sharm is fine for cost effective winter sun but even the prestige brands they have there are significant below their sister resorts elsewhere - to caveat that, I havent been to the Four Seasons there so it may be an exception.
As always, if you do go AI then make sure you know what you're getting as it can vary massively. Local beers are fine but spirits/ wines etc leave a fair amount to be desired0 -
