PPI Reclaim Advice

Hi,
I have an on-going PPI claim with Barclay Card which they’ve upheld. They have offered me a refund; however I am not confident they are giving me back, in full what I am owed. I have written to them enclosing a statement from 2004, highlighting PPI charges were being applied back them. All they did was just write back to me confirming their first offer. I have called the Barclay Card PPI help line where I questioned this with a lady and all she said was "I can confirm we have gone back as far as 2004". I asked her for evidence to show this calculation and her reply was “all I can suggest is you request access data information which will cost you £10.00". I did this and received reams of confusing information this week and now don't know what to do with this information. Can anyone offer me any advice please?
Thanks

With loans, the lender has to recreate the information. This is relatively easy as they have the premium info that would have gone with the amount that was same across the board. However, with credit card, it is harder as premiums are based on what you borrow and if you borrow nothing (such as paying it off each month) then you dont pay PPI. So, they generally go by what can be proven on the statements. If they no longer hold statements, they can use copies you can supply to fill gaps.
Barclaycard retain about 6 years worth of statements (will be longer if complaint received as they should cease to destroy at that point). On upheld complaints they will refund what can be shown to have been paid. The fact they are saying they dont hold records going back longer is consistent with what you would expect with Barclaycard I'm afraid.
The DSAR they suggested was really only proof to show what they are saying is correct. If that shows only back to 2004 and you have no old statements then you are largely stuffed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for your reply dunstonh, your advice is greatly received.
In the DSAR pack, there is "Barclaycard statements" which goes back to 2007. However, when I wrote to them challenging their first offer, I sent and enclosed a copy of a statement from 2004 showing that they were applying PPI to my account back then.
Based on that, I think they have calculated my PPI from 2007 which will be the "6 years". However I have proved with the copy statement I sent them, they should go back to 2004. Do you think I'm right? If so, I need to work out a way of getting this across to them in a way which they'll sit up and take notice.

At present all you have sent Barclaycard is a single statement from 2004. This does not prove that you paid PPI therafter until 2007. For all anybody knows you could have paid the card off in full the following month and not incurred any further charges over the next few years. Unless you can provide further statements to support your case you are unlikely to ger anywhere with Barclaycard.0
