it's amazing how many students we have coming to the school I work in when 15 years after they left, they suddenly remember they haven't picked them up and think we have a huge vault with them still stored.:p We do text/email out reminders but still we have hundreds uncollected.

We do post if requested, ie if the student has moved to the other end of the country, but this has to be done recorded delivery and the school simply doesn't have the resources/funds to do this for every uncollected certificate. The cost of a large letter, recorded delivery is extortionate these days

our exams officer does hold them for longer than a year, even though she doesn't have to as she can't bear the waste...we have about four years worth xx

    Hi OP,

I think I got my replacement (which was a statement of results, as mentioned above) within about 10 days.

Very surprised he got onto his undergraduate course without his original certificates - otherwise how would he have proved that he had the necessary qualifications (ignore that if he was a mature student).

When I worked in a uni admissions office, all offers were subject to proof of qualification.

Universities have access to UCAS and know the results from that. That is also where they confirm that a conditional offer is now firm.
