buying timber cut to size

  • Thanks for the comments folks - I won't need the timbers cut lengthways but it would be a pain in the backside to make all the cuts with a cheap jack saw and I don't think it would produce a nice finish. (I do have one!)

For all the costs, time and effort that goes into this sort of project it'd be worth paying a little bit to have the cuts done properly.

Also, I'm a she, not everyone building things is a he :)
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
  • You can get good results with a hand saw.

If it's the square cuts you're worried about have you considered a mitre box or a cheap mitre saw?

How do you know the OP doesn't want it cut lengthways?

And getting thinner timber isn't always the solution, especially if you need something that falls between widths.

Because I have crystal balls, proven by post # 12:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Ok, but I stand by what I've said, you should either buy a ready made kit, (don't), or buy the saw.;);)

Regardless of "he or she", learn to use a handsaw, you never know what you may want to do later.

Why is Charlie Dimmock in my mind, 2 reasons I guess :o:o:o:o:A:A:A

    Pergola anyone.

PS, I think for a female it's best not to mention your sex until it matters, because much of the time it simply doesn't, as per my thoughts above.

Also, you don't even need to buy a try square, as there is one built into the handle. On the few occasions that I have actually had sheet materials cut in the shop, they still needed cutting again at home. I certainly would not trust a bored sales assistant with cutting anything that mattered.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
