Emergency Repairs Grant

Hi, I own my own home (mortgaged) and have a leak in my roof. To repair will cost £2500, but my insurance company says I'm not covered.
I'm a single parent, I do work, but I'm also entitled to child & working tax credits. I do budget & live within my means, but I only have about £300 in my 'emergency fund'. Unfortunately I won't be able to raise this money through traditional methods and was wondering if there was any grants available for such circumstances? Obviously this is not a home improvement, but a necessity & I need to resolve it quickly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would need to contact your local authority - each has a fund for things like this but the criteria will differ. Have you got more than one quote?0

Thanks Jacques. My local authority is Sandwell, but would you believe their website is currently down! I'll keep trying. Not too optimistic though, Sandwell is generally speaking a deprived area and I seem to recall an article in the local paper that they could only provide the bare minimum they are required. Seems the council is broke too! Will certainly ask the question though. Yes, I've had 3 quotes.0
