I think it was Evening Standard which did a dinner party from Lidl and the guests raved about the Lidl free range roast chicken. Nice thing was the money saved went to charities.
Before I went organic had the Lidl free range chicken and it is good. The non GM grass pastured New Zealand lamb chops are good too.0 -
I tried a LIDL free range chicken since I did my shop there. It was fab and it made very good stock (always an indicator of quality). I'll try Aldi next time for comparison.February GC 173/200
March GC £193.60/190
April 221/£2500 -
I've tried both, but the aldi one wins hands down for me,on price and quality. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0

I have to say I found the lidl free range chicken very poor. Even though the bird was well in date and the raw meat smelt fresh, it gave off a strange odour as it was cooking. The taste was very odd too slightly fishy and the cooked breast was grey not the usual creamy white. Finally I noticed the bone structure of the chicken was very weak suggesting a fast growing breed fed on a poor diet.
I think I have eaten most of the free range chickens available from supermarkets and the best by far has to be the Wiltshire free range chicken from waitrose, it is like night and day when compared to the lidl bird.
People have become so used to cheap chicken that they now think that they can get a quality free range product at a discount too. I am sorry to say compromises have to be made to sell so cheap.0
