Is that the original Motherboard? The BIOS linked to on the website is for an Intel Board; D101GGC.

You are correct, the msi board replaced the original one some years ago.
The full details of the board are: MSI RC410M MS7173 ver 1A.
I am unable to post a link but it is shown on the Gateway support site.

I know you said that the machine is perfectly fine for your needs. But I would definitely recommend increasing the amount of RAM - from specs online, it only has 512MB. 1GB would make things a lot more comfortable.

    It has 2GB RAM already.

The OP will find this is more than adequate for many Linux distroes.
But the OP wants to install Windows, not one of the many Linux distros.

That was a good choice then, 512MB isn't good for much these days.

So it is entirely possible that the recovery disc will fail, unless it is this board. These little details are important. :)

Will send you a test program later or you can just try the disc to see if it works. If it doesn't we'll test the board at that point.

Thank you so much NiftyDigits. :T

All done, updated, programs installed and running like a dream.

I have learnt my lesson. I have just created, and verified a disk image on DVD and also to an external HDD using Macrium Reflect. I have also created the Macrium rescue boot CD and tested it to confirm that it works.

Thank you again for your help, time and patience.

    Regards, Bobblink
