On wrong tarriff

Hi All, When my emmersion heater got replaced by a combi boiler I requested to British Gas for me to come off Economy 7 and go onto one standard rate as had no use for off peak change in prices. I am PAYGO. I recently went to change suppliers as my bills are high and got told by the new supplier that I cannot change as am currently on economy 7. I have checked my yearly bill and am on standard tarrif but being charged a high day rate and a cheaper night rate... this is not what I requested to be on. My gas also appears to be on a higher rate, then after so many KWH's used it reduces. I have compared my bill to normal standard tarriff rates and am being charged around £300 a year more. Because I requested not to have off peak, can I claim my over payments back. If so, how can I prove that I requested to change years ago? All feedback appreciated

The two-tier pricing is because you are an NSC tariff, (No Standing Charge ), whereby the Service Charge is collected by way of "XX" number of Kwh a year being charged at a higher price.
Ofgem the regulator have decided that NSC tariffs must cease, so when your present Gas tariff expires you will be switched to a Daily Standing Charge tariff, the cost of which will roughly in line with money presently collected on the NSC tariff

Hopefully you have some sort of evidence, ( Person you spoke to/Date of phone call )of your conversation with BG about your ECO7 meters readings being charged at 'Standard' meter rates - If so WRITE to BG heading the letter Complaint

Behind the suppliers there is a Central Agency who record the number of the meter in every house and it's type - all suppliers rely on the Agency for this information if they take on a new customer, which in effect means any new supplier will bill you on an ECO7 tariff

You are entitled to have your ECO7 meter changed for a Standard one, but some suppliers will charge for this, but there are some who will do it for free and surpriseingly, last time I checked BG was one of these.
