Currys / Pcworld...

Hi,
A bit of advice needed if possible,
bought a 22" TV from currys in may for £119. went pop last week. Called Currys helpline and they sent someone to collect to arrange repair. Called us back to say TV was dead and would send us a voucher to buy a TV with the same / better spec than we had. Was happy with this. A credit note has come today to spend £119 in store, looking at the website, the closest TV to what we had is now 129.99? We had the LOGIK L22FED12 22, and the closest now is the LOGIK L22FED13 22. This is the cheapest with a built in DVD (for my sons room).
Should they replace with the slightly more expensive? If not, have I any rights to a cash refund? or am I stuck with coughing up another £10.99?
Any advice appreciated as I am going up there tomorrow morning.
Ta

I would use the £119 voucher before they change their minds.
You might be entitled to a cash refund, but forcing Currys to provide this comes with a couple of downsides.
As the original purchase was made over 6 months ago, the retailer is within their rights to ask you to prove that the fault wasn't caused by misuse but was due to a manufacturing defect.
If you did this then they have the option to repair, replace or refund (their choice), and if they decided to refund, they can make a deduction to cover the 7-8 months use you have had from the TV.
As it stands, you will have had 7-8 months use of a working set for only £10.99, which isn't bad at all.0 -
Hmm, im not sure I could now prove it was a manufacturing fault as they still have the TV? Surely these things should last more than 8 months? I realise it was a "budget" TV, but it was only used maybe twice a week for a few hours!
EDIT : Also, if they have the right to, repair, replace or refund, im not sure which one of these they are doing, they have not repaired, they are not replacing as the credit note doesn't allow me to buy a replacement, and it is not a refund, just a credit note?
I feel tomorrow is not going to be a good day

Of course it should, and they have acknowledged that by refunding your purchase price.Surely these things should last more than 8 months?
If it was decided that eight months was the life of that particular tv, you could expect nothing back.
Do you really think £10.99 is expensive for eight months tv viewing?
Just seen your edit...
If you wanted to, I dare say you could force them into a cash refund.
But do remember that any refund can be reduced to take account of the use you have had.
In other words, they could offer (say) £80 as a partial cash refund.
Would that be better for you?
As said, take their £119 offer.0 -
Guys,
If I chose to rent a TV and got a rate of 10.99 for 8 months I would be over the moon, but I didn't. I chose to purchase a TV that would last more than 8 months and wouldn't leave me out of pocket after 8 months (even 10.99 out of pocket). And it isn't strictly a refund, it is a credit note, that is forcing me, if I want a like for like replacement, to spend more money in there store. Surely that's not right?
Thanks for the replies

Hi Jim
Please don't take my comments the wrong way but the advice you've been given is correct.
To be honest from what I've seen others complaining about Currys/PC World you've got a brilliant result.
I know you feel that they should replace the TV with the more expensive one, but they have offered all that they need to under the law
If I was you I would pay the £10.99 and feel smug that you've got more out of Currys than most0 -
Is it a voucher number or gift card?
If it's a voucher then you're worrying over nothing, just bad communication from Currys, chances are that when the voucher was generated the TV was that price, but went up by the time you received it.
Like I said, if it's a voucher no problem, the staff in store can override the voucher. Gift card is another issue, those would have to be reissued.
Go into the store and explain to Knowhow, no problems. But let us know either way, good or bad.0 -
Guys, have to say CoolHotCold was spot on with the service I got, I was VERY surprised, but they couldn't have been better, spoke to the CS desk, they called a manager, he said no probs and exchanged the 119 voucher for a 129.99 tv. Thanks for all the advice.

Good result but by all accounts you got much better than you were legally entitled to.0
