Ed Balls pledges to raise taxes if Labour win election

Labour would reintroduce the 50p top rate of income tax for those earning over £150,000, if it returns to power, the shadow chancellor has said.
Simon Walker, director general of the Institute of Directors:
"It was, and remains, an envy-driven political gesture designed solely to drive a wedge between voters,"
A point that will probably be illustrated on this thread by sensible posters despising it for the Brown-esque politicking that it is, and class-warrior morons saying how fair it is that anyone with more money than them should be taxed as much as possible.
The top 1% of the country already pay nearly a third of all income tax. Quite amusing that Ed Balls thinks that's unfair on the other 99% of us!

Balls hasn't gone far enough - I would put the 50% rate on all earners who are above £100k a year.

Ad not necessarily without incurring substantially higher costs that, unlike those of politicians, cannot be claimed back as expenses if on PAYE.0 -
Lol I knew there'd be an envious little class warrior along to quickly prove my point. It never occurs to these people that maybe those who earn £100k worked hard & deserve it. Or actually it probably does occur to them but they're so jealous they don't care.
I need to find a way to block seeing the dull outpourings from people I've already got on ignore when someone quotes them though.0 -

Tbf there are people on excellent salaries who do not work too hard for them, and loads on less great ones who work like stink for very modest return. I don't think that's necessarily the sole issue.
The fact remains there are some costs it wouldn't be worth incurring for lower salaries or the promise of even greater ones. For example, we pay huge amounts of commuting costs and DH lives away from home mon to fri. This is obviously financial, emotional and sometimes a practical sacrifice. Still, pays back into the economy so long as we aren't hoarding it.0 -
Wasn't there some proof a while back that the 50p tax rate brought in less and therefore it was scrapped based on such evidence?
