Absolutely. Seems a bit of a non-story to me.
Maybe they have found that 90% of big cash withdrawals have been linked to fraud so have put more measures in. As mentioned above if it was my mum or dad then I'd be glad that the bank had checked.
If I was buying a second hand car then more likely to transfer money but if doing cash can't you just tell the bank what it's for?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

You can, at every other UK bank where you might get casually asked what you are going to to do with the money. Happened to me twice at Lloyds, and I had no problem telling them since it was just a friendly chat.
But you cannot at HSBC since they are / have been requesting proof, such as a builder's quote or whatever they deem sufficient evidence that you are telling them the truth. It's just plain ridiculous.0
