No return or credit note?

My partner was in our local M&S and they had a jacket in their sale at 70% off. She thought it would be a nice jacket for me but when she asked if she could return it if it didn't fit me (I wasn't with her) she was told no because it was their final reductions sale therefore no refunds or returns not even a credit note.

Is this correct that if you buy something which is a final reduction item then you cannot return it even for a credit note if the item doesn't fit?

Ta.

If you buy something in store then you have no statutory right to a return due to change-of-mind in any situation (sale or otherwise). A store can set their own returns policy and you are bound by that. So yes, M&S are allowed to tell you that you can't return something if they haven't breached the contract.

Buying something that turns out not to fit would be a change-of-mind because there is nothing wrong with the item.

    Thanks for that. :)

The odd thing is that ordinarily M&S do allow you to take things back if you change your mind or they don't fit. I recently (at Christmas) bought my partner a pair of gloves which I took back and got a full refund because she already had a very similar pair!!! Had my partner taken them back she'd have got a credit note as she didn't buy them.

Maybe their no returns policy only applies to final reduction sale items

Yes, the no returns almost certainly only applies to sale items. They will probably be discontinuing the range so if you returned them they will not be able to sell them again very easily.

I may pop down tomorrow to see if it fits, if it's still there of course. :D
