  • Just something else to add to the pot...

I recently obtained a copy of my Credit Report as I was curious to see what information it held, only to find the past two years of Electoral Roll information was missing.

I've been having an awful time dealing with the elections department within my local council, and have been told this is because I have not sent them any registration forms. Even more concerning is that I specifically remember doing so, at least four times by post and/or e-mail because that was on my list of priorities when I moved to my present address - I even have proof!

So, thanks to some breakdown in the system, I've not been registered and consequently did not appear on the Electoral Roll which will no doubt effect my chances of obtaining a credit card. It appears there is absolutely !!!!!! all that can be done to resolve this issue as the Electoral Roll cannot be updated retrospectively!

Has anyone else been in this position and what did you do?

You can't do anything, but when you are asked for length of time at address on application forms, you need to be truthful.

When I've moved house I've managed to get cards opened as soon as the electoral roll is showing on my credit reports, even if this only happens a year after moving in
  • I've always been truthful with any application I've made for credit. I will apply in-branch, that way if they decline and the reason is to do with the missing information on the Electoral Roll, I'll be able to instantly issue proof such as completion dates, deeds to properties etc...

The crazy thing is I had no issues obtaining furniture or a £40k car on credit, which I provided all the missing information for - odd!

This won't help, as the branch staff are not able to approve cards. They will need to write (or internal message) the underwriters

If you apply online and get declined you can still appeal the decision by writing to the underwriters

Since you are an existing customer of Halifax they will assume you live where you have told them you live. Unless they post you a letter and it gets returned to them.
  • Sorry, that's what I meant, if my application is declined they can contact the underwriters on my behalf and find out the reason.

I'm not sure how this is done, but Halifax have advised they are able to speak to them directly and can e-mail them copies of any paperwork I bring to substantiate my appeal.
