New House & Building Isurance / Now have flood damage

Options
Hi, can anyone help answer my question.

We took out Building & House Insurance this Monday @ around 14:00pm with Churchill Insurance, this was done online and was setup has a Direct Debit.

So at 16:30pm {Monday] we went to stay at some friends house {because it was a Birthday Party} but when we arrived back home at around Tuesday dinner time our house had be completly FLOODED on the ground level.....so my question is can we still claim of our new insurers {Churchill} for this damage, when we only taken out the insurance on Monday???

This was something we never expected and has you would have seen on the news over the last few days, we are in the South Yorkshire Region {RAVENFIELD, ROTHERHAM}

Just want to know that once the cover was taken out, it is taken from the time & date the cover was taken out from ??

Any help & advise will do.

With thanks

Jase

    If the insurance was effective immediately, then yes.

    Depends.

    Just get on the phone to them - the longer you leave it, the worse it will be.

    When did you cancel your old policy? Was that still effective on Monday? Might be useful if the Churchill policy wasn't effective immediately.

    Many thanks for your quick replies.... Our old insurers where Norwich Union & we never had any Home/House insurance for about 8 month's but with all the warnings of floods we took out insurance on the Monday but was FLOODED on the TUESDAY ....just cant believe we took some insurance out @ the right time.

    So as long as we where covered on the monday as in my first posting, we are covered from that date & time ? even though it was done over the internet & was setup as direct debit {no payment of direct debit as been piad due to our insurance starting this monday...}

    Just wondered if we where still ok on this, I also phoned the Churchill Insurance claims line on Tuesday afternoon and they said someone would contact us in a few days.

    Just a little scared they will say NO.... you cannot claim for anything due to the fact we setup the insurance on Monday.......then made a claim on Tuesday Afternoon.....To be honest this is a the FREAK OF NATURE and i would not even have thought we would have been flooded but took the precaution anyway.

    So as long as we where covered from that day...next day is a case we can make a claim ? and they should not refuse us our claim ????

    Many thanks again

    As per the replies on the other thread about this, it depends if there were flood warnings in place for your area when you took out the insurance.
