Are there any tariffs for someone with illness

Hi my father has two types of cancer and has the heating on 24/7 and my mother is sure that she was put on a special tariff from Scottish power, but has no record of it and SP say they don't do any special tariffs for illness.

So they are now looking to do a comparison (would never let me do it before), so any ideas if there is any help for this or do I just do a straight comparison with their details ?

Thanks

I think the only help will be in the form of benefits not special tariffs.

  • - your SP bill will precisely state which current tariff your mother is on
    - there are no special [for illness or disability] tariffs
    - any money from DLA [care or mobility] can be used for extra heating costs
    - an SP WHD discount may be available depending on your parents income

There was an SP legacy tariff, it was called Fresh Start Tariff 2011/12, your mother may have been on this 'special' tariff. If she was on it she should still be on it [an it would show on her bill] till March 1st this year when it ends.

In which case apply now here for consideration for entry to the WHD scheme.

I'm assuming your parents have too much 'means tested' income for the automatic entry to the Core Group of the WHD, if they were entitled they would already have received a snail-mail direct to their letterbox confirmation in writing from the DWP some months ago. All is not lost however, apply for the 'Broader Group' entry to the WHD I gave you above. The 2013-2014 WHD discount of £135 is if you are successful is worth only about a half of the FST which ends in March 2014, but is nevertheless worth having.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
