US to UK Shipping

Sorry if this is the incorrect sub forum but I couldn't find anything appropriate.
I am looking to have an item shipped from the US to the UK. I have noticed I can either pay a courier to ship it, or I can set up a mail forwarding service, where I get a US address, and items sent to that address get forwarded to me in the UK.
The mail forwarding services seem to be cheaper than going to a courier. Am I missing something obvious? Why would it be cheaper?
Thanks,
Kevin

Interesting post. Just researching this too. On MSE forums I found two recommendations:
1) http://www.bundlebox.com/
MSE reference: ( https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4266759) and
2) http://www.myus.com/en/compare-memberships/
MSE reference (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/453554)
Trying to decide which to go with. It's a little confusing as there are a lot of fake reviews out there.
Also some places will not ship if you do not have a US billing address, e.g Apple. So need a US prepaid card? Any recommendations?0 -
I can recommend myus.com and i have used it a few times without any problems.0
