need help with a new chromebook 14

just got a H.P 14 chromebook which in its self its great. but i having troubles saving pictures from a sd card to the downloads (hard drive) i ve done abit of googling and on the h.p site it shows that when you open up the files app and click on you memory card the pictures come up and next to them is a little box that it says you can tick and then move the pictures. the problem is there is no little boxes down the left hand side for me to tick.

also anyone having trouble with the app for google plus pics.the pics dont load on the app but are ok in the browser version

ive managed to drag pics from the memory card to my hard drive (downloads) but theres still the issue of there been no boxes at the side of the pics to tick. please help its driving me mad

now when i put the sd card in google pics opens and says it will import after 15 secs but nothing happens. it was doing the same last nigh but worked ok this morn now its doing the same again.is it google or me?

ok. so i tried importing through a standard SD card size and it imported.then ive tried several time with a micro memory card inserted into an adapter and even though the pop up comes up saying it will import in 15 secs nothing happens,surely i shouldnt make a difference or does it??
