Please help with my excel issues

Above is the columns A-P with the scores as examples and I wish to be able to have a list of any 5 football results from the 6 that are possible. also all 6 correct once they are sorted I will be able to follow each team for each league game through a whole season. only the odds each week will change and any winnings will update the profit loss columns automatically. I have a place to insert that weeks final result so it can check and highlight the winning scores.

is there an easy way to do all this? I understand inputting odds each week will take me some time etc. but most important part I am stuck on is getting it to list the possible 5 or 6 correct combinations. I am sure I could slowly work out the rest one bit at a time. I know with 6 from 6 it is 15625 possible with choices above so will be long list.

PS would have attached a file but will not let me or I am missing how to do so

  • Not exactly sure I follow your example but to show the combinations of 4 items from 6 using formulae instead of a macro:
    • enter 1 into cell A1, and 2 into B1
    • enter formula =IF(B2<=B1,A1+1,A1) into cell A2
    • enter =IF(B1<6,B1+1,A1+2) into cell B2
    • copy the formulae in A2 and B2 down to cells A15 and B15
    • enter =SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE("123456",A1,""),B1,"") into cell C1
    • copy formula in C1 down to C15
    • cells C1 to C15 should then contain 3456, 2456, 2356 ... 1234 which are the 15 unique combinations
    • you could separate out the first number by entering =VALUE(MID($C1,1,1)) into D1, =VALUE(MID($C1,2,1)) into E1, similar for F1, G1; then copy down.
    There's probably a more elegant way to do this but maybe this'll get you started.
