Which Car Next?

I thought the idea was to sell the car to buy something cheaper, rather than to part exchange it?

Your cambelt change will be 'on the cards' for any potential buyer who bothers to look at the service book. Everyone should but if you are selling it privately you'll obviously get some people who might not.

I think you need to look at specific replacements and do the sums to see what difference it will make.

Sorry, I was using the term 'part exchange' loosely to mean 'sell them my car and buy a new car'.

If the cambelt change is on the cards for any potential buyer, then the question would be - will the price go up by more or less than £700 if I do it before (if I sell) or not? I don't suppose there's an easy way to tell that.

I think you're right though, I just need to sit down and do the calculation. If it's cheaper, switch, if not, stick.

    Thanks for all your help!

Have you had a quote from a local VAG independent specialist? You might be able to get that cost down a lot if those are dealer prices.

Check out some SEAT forums online for recommendations on where to take it locally. I generally find that even joining the online forums for most vehicles is a good idea as there is usually someone around to help out/provide insight.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
