I owned my own business from 2004-2008 but due to the economy i had to sell the business and became bankrupt there was nothing to do with fraud just owing creditors

I became bankrupt in 2009

m back looking for work now and have done for a year i would have a job by now if it wasn't for companies credit checking me every time and failing it
what i want to know is how long does it stay on your credit file how do i get it removed and anything else i can do

  • It will show up for six years. Would you not be better to focus your job search in areas that do not require a credit search?

Jacques is right. It will show on your record for six years, and you can't get it removed.

As for what else you can do, he's right again - all you can realistically do is look for jobs that don't require a credit check.

(I assume you mean you're failing the check when you declare your bankruptcy. If you're not declaring to companies that credit check, that'll be your problem - they'll be more worried about your failure to declare when asked than they are about the bankruptcy itself).

Then maybe it is your literacy skills that are holding you back?

If you apply for jobs that require a credit check and you can't pass one, you are applying for the wrong jobs. If suggest some careers advice if that is all you are looking at.

There are plenty of jobs that require no credit checks, in fact I would think the majority of jobs would not bother. I know you don't want career advice but the reality is that perhaps you need to rethink your career strategy at least in the short term and look for something that will not be affected by your bankruptcy or literacy skills.

  • Hello what jobs are you going for?!

As much as I can sympathise it honestly isn't worth fretting over ! As has been said go for jobs without the requirement for a credit check or make sure your file is 'cleaned'? (which you need the bankruptcy board on here for to point you in the right direction esp if you don't need careers advise as you say...) see if that changes anything if you really must but like I say not worth it. I've also been to a franchise pawn shop, a short term loan co and in telemarketing for chargeable debt services for a job amongst other jobs, and can safely say I don't remember any of these expressily mentioning the issue of credit checks being the big be all and end all.....

The only one comfort I found the Jobcentre very accepting as had it put down it may not help when finding work when I had an active DRO and boy do I still sometimes wish it was still active as it never really leaves you, well I've never overcome it so why on earth I would want to put myself through it every day mind boggles especially where I've knowingly had to undergo a credit check always been beat pretty much, but I like to look on it in a good spin that I've had a very somewhat interesting career because of it! wouldn't change that for anything in all honesty but I'll be no-one's scape goat either! ; ) then again I've also worked alongside past bankrupts too as well as those with the power of assessing a register who graciously never said anything but also somehow but I wouldn't have insulted their intelligence there is hope.. again proves furthermore it is all a myth that our sought aren't allowed to work again....

You may be a newbie but there is no need to be so dismissive. You were asked some sensible questions and given sound advice - you may not like that advice but no need to get upset about it.

If you cannot get jobs because of your Bankruptcy then as already stated - move into a different field. I have never Credit Checked anyone for a job.

What's a waste of time? Asking how long it would be on your file? I think you got the answer, 6 years!

Capital letters, punctuation, grammar in general, and spelling appears to be the answer.
