Hi,

What's the best way to send individual records - mainly 7"? They should sell from £15 - £150, though some may sell for over £300, so will need some insuring. Would Royal Mail be best? Or a courier or Collect+?

I would send them special delivery. How are you hoping to be paid though?

Payment method has very little to do with postage method. OP will ened to get the items to his buyers in one piece and insure himself regardless.

Use Record Mailers and send via Royal Mail. Son had to reclaim when his special delivery record (over £150) ended up in Russia rather than Austria. Almost as if someone very short sighted read the delivery label!

Paypal - selling them on ebay.

Personally I would use cardboard to make sure they do not bend and bubble wrap under that, if you are concerned further after doing that I would add a little more than you normally would and use a courier, perhaps a 24 hour or 48 hour courier to keep delivery and movement times down to a minimum.

As always, no matter what you choose, you need to hope that whoever is moving your parcel(s) is not throwing them around like a football, so make sure for your own peace of mind to wrap them safely and securely so you have no worries once they leave your hands.

You could also opt into insuring your parcels whilst filling our courier forms, whilst it may cost slightly more, it will give you that extra peace of mind that you will be reimburse should anything go wrong between yourself and your buyer.

I hope this input is of some help and value to you.

Yes, mailers - need to get some, thanks for reminding me.

Special Delivery sounds right. I suppose the lower value ones would be covered by Recorded Delivery (signed for) up to a certain amount as SD probably would be disproportionately costly.

Just bear in mind that many overseas buyers exist for high end vinyl. Japan, Russia and Brazil are just 3 examples. You won't be able to use SD for these, no courier will deliver to a private address in Russia and Brazilian customs can take 12 weeks to clear. Payment method WILL become important if a Paypal buyer claims INR after 12 days. We all know who Paypal favour so an unscrupulous buyer from Brazil, say, will get his money back, and, a few weeks later, the record too.

    Excellent advice - thank you.

Will give some thought to selling overseas. May decide to not do that, or maybe ask potential foreign bidders to contact me first so I can then weigh up the pros and cons and the postage possibilities. Although it can be a headache, international buyers have helped me get a good selling price over and above what domestic bidders would pay for collectable type items, so I'm a bit reluctant to exclude them altogether.
