Faulty Tv

Hi
I purchased a £1300 TV from Curry's in Nov 12 which since Nov 13 has developed horizontal lines across one side covering around a quarter of the screen. I called in to Curry's 9 days out of my 12 months free warranty to be advised that they couldn't help & I needed to purchase cover & get it repaired this way. I believe that I am still covered under the sales of goods act, is this correct & how do I go about sorting this out?
Thanks in advance

You'd need an independent report (eg. from a local TV engineer - they will know what is required) to point out the reason for the fault (i.e. failed part, not normal wear and tear, not user damage, etc). You may need to pay someone to do this, but if it's in your favour, then that will be refunded. Once you have this, send it to them, and they will probably arrange a Free of Charge repair, or partial refund.
Your first point of call, however, is to contact their customer services by phone/email/letter/carrier pigeon. Sometimes, a FOC repair is offered without the need for a report, if it is a common fault. They may also suggest paying out the normal fault & fix fee (£95) and getting it refunded if a defect is identified. However, you can get your own report done if you prefer.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
