Opticians

I’ve just been for my annual eye examination and, as I expected, my ability to read small print has worsened. I asked the optometrist to boost the prescription for my reading glasses but I see she has increased it by only a small amount from +1.75 to + 2.00. I’m a little disappointed at that as I don’t think the new prescription will help me very much.
I wonder if anyone on the forum has experience of working in an optician’s and can advise me what optometrists aim for. Do they try to improve the client’s vision to a set point like N7 or N6 or do they merely give the minimum amount of correction which will help the client?
Any advice or information is welcome.

I wondered why you feel qualified to tell your optometrist what you need.Surely that's his specialty?0

You can't know how much they will help until you actually get your new glasses so wait until then before disparaging the optician's skills.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Take a degree and train as an optometrist or accept that the optician is probably better skilled than you to determine what your prescription should be!Any advice or information is welcome.
At the end of the day you took the eye test and told the optician at what point it was comfortable to read at and they make a judgement from that.0 -
Perhaps in future, the best time to ask this question is during the examination. Any aspect of your vision is best discussed then with the optometrist.0
