buying a car on the phone

hi guys

here's the deal - I want a new car on finance, I know what I want and there there are not that many of them - so I'm looking at min distances 50 miles, often 200 miles - so statistically speaking, I reckon the ideal car is probably 100+ miles out, which I can't do unless I've bought it as I work all the time

so decision taken - make the AA/RAC do it - I don't have a problem with this as they're very probably more skilled at looking for faults than I am, plus they haven't just driven 300 miles in the clapped out banger to take a fresh look at the new motor.

although my credit rating is pretty good these days I'd be mortified if I turned up to this mythical 300 miles away location to get finance only to be told no. So I'm going to set up the lot over the phone, part ex, the works, thanks to advice I've already received.

Question is this - has anyone got a car loan first - I have a precise budget in mind for the new car, and precise terms, - reason for doing it is once the AA or whoever tells me the motor is a good-un (I hope! otherwise it's best part of 200 laid out nowt to show for it other than peace of mind I haven't just bought a skip), I can just flash the cash and job's done? Has anyone done it this way around? direct car loan before car?

cheers!
Andy

Hi Andy I've bought a couple of cars over the phone by simply leaving a deposit, then paying the balance on collection always from dealers not private sellers. But I've always either had the cash or a pre arranged personal loan. If you want to buy the car on hp arranged through the garage I'm fairly sure they could arrange all of this in principal over the phone before you collect the car? As for the aa inspection depending on the age and model of car your after. Some of the larger dealers have thier cars pre inspected and if it's a main dealer approved car then you have little to worry about.
