Which Plug!

It has recently dawned on me that I am using the wrong plug for an ALBA PD2 DAB/FM RADIO. Seem the original plug has gone missing in transit when we moved house!

It says on the back of the unit:

Power Adaptor 6V 1500MA

I have been using a 9V 300MA Adaptor which I think is from a chargeable torch, no wonder the plug on the radio as been getting hot! I presume this is why...

I have found a plug on eBay could anyone tell me if this will do the trick for the radio:

I'm female and I have no idea about electrics! ;)

  • it'll put out 2 amps which is 2,000 MA - in relation to your requirement for 1500 MA -so it's powerful enough with spare juice

it'll work no problem - PROVIDING the jack on end of adaptor is same as the jack on the back of your radio and the centre pin in the back of the adaptor is polarity positive(should be)

if jack is wrong send it back

    cheers

Thank you for your help Andy, I really appreciate it.

It looks like this on the back...

I have also seen this one on eBay:

    And

Both of the above seem to have different 'connecting plugs' Would these work also or would I be better with the first one!

If you're unsure, take the radio into Maplin and ask them what they've got that'll work. It'll be slightly dearer than online, but you'll be sure you get the right one and that it's safe (quite a number of adapters for sale online will be Chinese private imports and not necessarily CE, whereas Maplin ones will all be quality controlled).

I did try Maplin the other day, but they had no 6V plugs in stock - shelf was empty! However I did not take the radio, but perhaps will pop in over the weekend they might have some new stock in now!

There could well be a cheapo multivoltage one which has the right adaptor/connector. I know my local Maplin at least would have a look at the radio and in a heartbeat be able to suggest at least one (probably several) suitable chargers, and even test/demo them in store.

Don't worry, it's quite OK for any gender (or none) to post in the Techie forum! :)
  • Would you believe it, I buy one from eBay... and two hours later my dad finds the original plug! Thankfully the nice eBay seller was happy to cancel the sale and refund me!

Thanks to everyone who offered some help on here!
