Barclays Identity fraud

Someone have opened a account on my address using my middle name and last and same dob. I just realise when i got a statement on my my address and i was so worried about.

I contacted experian and got to know they have a current account in my credit file including a credit card from barclays. Experian asked me to contact barclays my self, i contacted and they says they will investigate it internally.

Anyone come across with these kinds of situation.

Please advice i am really concerned.

Why not report this to Action Fraud and seek their advice. It's a Freephone number 0300 123 2040

    Here's the link: http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

to protect yourself from this sort of thing in future why not consider www.freeidprotection.co.uk

    Hope this helps.

It is sensible to be concerned.

I would get copies of your credit files from all 3 agencies to check if there are any other accounts on there you do not recognise.

You may want to look in to CIFAS protective registration to make it harder for anyone to take more credit out in your name (there is a small annual fee but may well be worth it).

Do you know who may be doing this? anyone you live with that you may be suspicious of? or that could be intercepting your post?

You say you have contacted barclays - was this in writing or by phone? if only by phone I would follow up in writing.

I contacted by phone and no ref number was given pon asking but the person on the phone did gave me her full name.

I dont know how long they will take because i want to remove these details from credit file.

I wouldn't be happy with just a phone call conversation saying they will investigate. I would follow up with a letter to them and asking them to provide an update. You need to have something in writing in case they don't resolve this satisfactorily and in case you need to escalate it to a complaint.

I'd imagine it could take the bank a while to investigate and to check that these are fraudulently opened accounts rather than some innocent mistake (someone with a similar name and DOB having been accidentally linked to your address).

In case you haven't looked. Action Fraud should provided you with a Crime Reference Number. Hit Barclays with this if/and when you get the Number.

    From the Action Fraud Website:

We provide a central point of contact for information about fraud and financially motivated internet crime. If you've been scammed, ripped off or conned, there is something you can do about it. Report fraud to us and receive a police crime reference number.
