Worcester 12Ri, Remeha Avanta 12V or other conventional boiler?

Hi all,

we're getting quotes for replacing our Baxi Bermuda SL3 backboiler to see how much we need to save up for replacement before the next heating system.

We have a vented, pumped system and were looking for a replacement conventional boiler. http://www.idhee.org.uk/boilersize.php gives a boiler output requirement of under 12 kW.

Was looking at the Remeha Avanta 12V as it seems to get good reviews as a midrange boiler but I've been told it is complicated to install. The Worcester 12Ri doesn't have a stainless steel heat exchanger like the Avanta but does modulate lower (4 kW rather than 6) which should be more efficient.

What would your thoughts be?

For spare parts, back up and peace of mind I would be going for a Worcester or Valliant.

Thanks, I know the Vaillant and Remeha support weather compensation, but does the Worcester 12Ri? Their website doesn't seem helpful on this.

it's not Remeha any longer it's Baxi, same boiler just with a diff name on the front, 12kw sounds low unless it's a small house plus they don't do the 12v anymore it starts at 15v, it's not complicated to install & it's my boiler of choice, the only thing your installer has to remember is the pump MUST be wired direct to the boiler & not to the wiring center in the airing cupboard, plus the Advanta is very very quiet & unless you look at the display you won't even know it's working

    clicky
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Ah thanks. House has internal dimensions of 6.4 x 6.4m and is semi-detached with one bathroom. In the calculator I used the option of solid 220mm walls to give an estimate on the high side. In reality they are system built, mixture of original and internally insulated (ongoing room-by-room insulation project). I believe the existing boiler is 15 kW and does not struggle... the rooms I have insulated have a noticeably lower heat demand.

I did not know Baxi had acquired it - the Remeha page is still up and listing the 12V and lots of places still seem to be selling it.

  • they didn't really buy it more of a merger between the two co's (Remeha's parent co is massive), the reason it was re-named was all about brand awareness, it's an excellent boiler it's just no one knew the name whereas most people have heard of Baxi

this happened in the early summer '13 so any boilers with the Remeha name on are old stock, which could be good news for you as there should be some good deals about, spares are not a problem as you now get them from Baxi

if your old boiler is 15kw then that's what i would stick with I wouldn't go down, after all you don't want to find out that you haven't got enough boiler power & the boiler will modulate down anyway
