Selling a diamond ring -WPdiamonds.co.uk

Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated.

I have a diamond engagement ring (excellent diamond, 0.55 D VVS2 set in platinum) and a platinum wedding band that I am looking to sell following a failed marriage.
I have tried the company I purchased this from and they offer just over 1/4 of what I paid for them.
I have seen a company online (Birmingham based) called WPdiamonds.co.uk
Has anyone seen/used/heard of this company? Their telephone estimate was higher than the valuation I received from the company that made the ring by a couple of hundred pounds!
An online company for items like this just makes me a little concerned...any thoughts???
Thanks in advance for your help!

Normally I'd say go with your gut instinct, no offense like but that's going to be a fairly sizable risk in sending it to a company you're unsure of, best to stick to a company you can trust (and more importantly get payment for immediately!).

That street is full of jewellers/watch repairers so the company is probably legitimate. It could be they reduce the offer once they actually see the ring.
Was the offer guaranteed or an estimate based on your description?

(I only know of the street as there's a Ecodrive watch repairer on Ebay along that street, so previously streetmapped them to see where they were)

If we're talking proper money here, get yourself to the Jewellwery Quarter in Birmingham and go to a few of the places that buy. Competition is high, expertise is high, and you can't be held to ransom/lowballed - you'll get a fairer price.

Or stick it in a bricks and mortar auction house. I sold a ring a number of years ago and just left it with the family jeweller to sell for me.

They will offer a price, then when you send it to them they will drastically reduce that offer and then charge you if you want them to send them back.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Is the band just plain? What width? Are any of them engraved? Which organisation certified the stone? What price have you been offered?

If its a few hundred pounds difference as you say then get yourself to a jewellery quarter and deal with them face to face

An actual value of 25-30% of the retail price would be quite normal.

They classify themselves as a wholesaler, they have branches in ny and Barcelona.
I expect until they see the clarity of the diamond they won't be able to accurately quote.
Your best bet is to try to sell it yourself , handing over personally.
