Hi. I am thinking of opening one of their accounts and am wondering what experiences other MSE members have had with them regarding efficiency and ease of paying in and withdrawing money. I already have the usual bank accounts paying 3% and need an account to 'park' money that I will need at a later date ,possibly later in the month , and that I can add to as and when. I am fed up with playing the 'chase the bonus' game but still want to get 'best value' from any money I have and they seem reasonable to me.

I have a 2% Cash ISA with them. I opened it in branch as it was just round the corner from where i work in the city.
Only been in there a few times as i cant add to it, but service was nice enough, chatty, offer you a drink, sit down at the desk instead of standing at the counter etc
Went in RBS the other day and they kind of look at you like youre bothering them by walking in.0 -
Excellent bank, been with them since they took over N.Rock.
You can practically do everything online and they are easy to contact if need be.

Have several accounts with Virgin and previously NR both online and in their branch. No problems at all.
Currently have several ISA's and easy access savings accounts with them
Online is easy to use and works well.0 -
I've got a 2% E saver with them and use it in the way you want to. Although the rate is variable, and has reduced a couple of times in the 2 years I've had it, it's not a bonus account so it's nice to have an easy access saver I don't need to re-home every year.
I can't comment on branch access as I have no idea where my nearest one is but the online banking is pretty good for a savings account, rock solid and one of the few that display the interest rate (net) on the main page. I'm not sure it uses faster payments but taking money out is never instantaneous and always takes an hour or two to hit your accouut but no problem if you're prepared for it
I've only phoned them once, it was a UK call centre and they seemed competent enough from memory. There is a secure messaging facility online
They get my vote0 -
Been with them for some time, absolutely perfect, never had any issues0

Thank you all for your comments. I think I will give them a go. I would be online only so branch access is not a problem, although there is a branch about 20 miles away.0

Recently transfered an ISA to them, all seemed to go smoothly. BUT, got a mailing returning my identity documents, was not my documents but someone elses passport!!
Contacted Virgin to ask what to do and where was my id documentation, they said they'd sent a post paid envelope for the passport and look into what's happened. That was well over a week ago and still no envelope received.
I am reluctant to send the poor person's passport back as it will likely go even further astray. Thankfully my id docs were photo copies. Still begs the question of now being open to id theft/fraud.
Very worrying.0 -

This thread seems to have been a kiss of death for Virgin.
They are cutting their long standing easy access account from 2% to 1.41% at the end of March!0
