o2 Credit Search??

Just looking for a little advice. Myself and my partner are trying to improve our credit scores as much as possible so that later in the year we can sort a remortgage. (I have already posted regarding some arrangements and 6 payments late I have on my file that I am trying to sort) but also my partners mobile contract is up for renewal next month. He has a squeaky clean credit file unlike me and he wants to upgrade with o2 as he really needs a new phone as his is knackered but we are trying not to make any new credit searches or new accounts on either of our credit files. He is currently on a handset contract with o2 and wants to stay on one and get a new phone and possibly more data. Will this mean a new search and account on his file or can it just continue just with another start date??

Hi
When I upgraded they didn't with me - can't see why they would need to if you have always paid on time, after all they'll want to keep you as a customer! I've been with them about 7 years, in fact I usually nicely tell them I am leaving as they always come back with a better deal then
!
Ps I may be wrong but I'm not sure that searches for things like phones particularly matter to a lender. Our advisor said they all had their own criteria and it would be level of debt and any defaults etc they'd be more concerned about x0 -
Vodafone made a point of saying they wont credit search when offering me a 2nd phone to add to my contract.
Whether they had credit checked beforehand i dont know i never checked.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
O2 Check to make sure you haven't defaulted on any payments before an upgrade, so providing all payments are in order, then it should go straight through.
If you take a Refresh contract, then they will do a credit search because it is a different kind of account. (More a finance offer, than a mobile contract)

They may well do - they know what your payment record s like, but not for the first time there may be troubles elsewhere.
There is absolutely no need to take out a bee contract as the old one will not 'end' it carries on before. If the phone you use needs replacing, buy another - you don't need a contract to do this. Contracts (old or new) are always a risk, but one that gives you a 30 day cancellation option is considerably safer than another 2 year lock in. Especially if you move, can you guarantee adequate coverage where you'll end up? The networks certainly don't.
Don't risk it - especially as you need to protect your file for things that really matter. Risking it for a fickle contract is madness.0 -
There have never been any defaults in the 2 years he has been with o2.Just paid by dd every month. He just wants a better phone and more data so this should just carry on without a new account or credit search showing on his credit file is that right??0
