could someone tell me what insurance, contents or buildings covers the following. Kitchen units, laminate floor, fitted carpet all damaged by flood My daughter landlord has said that she has to cover all contents with a insurance .she is prepared to pay for a new carpet that was flood damaged but she believes what contents she has (her own property) are not worth covering. i would have thought any permanent fixtures as mentioned above would com under buildings. He has quite a few properties and i would have thought needed adequate cover. What is her rights on these points please

It depend on how they are fitted.
Kitchen Units- if it is part of a fitted kitchen then if it defintatly buildings. Free standing units can sometimes come under contents but only if they are moveable from house to house.
Carpets- if they are glued down they are buildings, grippers are contents.
Laminate- if it is glued down or it goes underneath the skirting boards it is buildings, normal click together stuff laid floating is contents.
In either case, the insurance company should be prepared to accept a claim for either on either (i.e. if you only have contents, they should register a claim for stuck down laminate and seek a contribution from the buildings insurer) This is at the discretion of the company though.0 -
I was told many moons ago that if you were to pick up your house and turn it upside down - anything that drops out is contents - anything else is buildings.0
