Attaching decorative mirrors to wall

There are fittings for a huge mirror above my bed but I have chosen not to hang such a heavy item. Instead, I have hung two, smaller, decorative mirrors on the two fittings (drilled, with rawl plugs and large screws or something like that).

I bought these mirrors http://www.lauraashley.com/pictures/set-of-three-hanging-mirrors/invt/3553144 and want to buy more, similar to make a feature of the small mirrors.

I don't want to drill into the wall (painted, plastered brick wall) to make more holes. I bought some Command Picture Hanging strips which look quite secure but the mirrors have a sort of black velvet backing and I am not confident that the strips would stick to the backing. They are quite lightweight mirrors which shouldn't do much damage should they fall but I would rather not have to worry about that.

I am inclined to try and bang a nail or two in rather than drill. The mirrors can have tape threaded through them to hang from so I reckon one nail (or whatever is appropriate) for each small mirror.

My question is, is there something I can buy to make a secure hanging?

You could use masonry nails - but they will leave a hole if removed and sometimes will pull off some plaster when they are taken out.
I would use very small wall plugs and small screws.
    Forgotten but not gone.

Thanks, I think I will go for the masonry nails as I am unlikely to be removing the mirrors for a very long time and can deal with little holes if I ever do.

I have never used a drill and plugs and I am probably unlikely to now. My husband doesn't know what a drill is but would offer to get someone in to drill a few holes! Seriously! I always try to find a solution to smaller jobs myself as I grudge spending my pension on such things.

    Thanks again.
  • There is a panel adhesive used to attach car body panels metal to metal, metal to glass etc. It is available on ebay but not the sealant. the adhesive.
    copy this Sikaflex-521-White-Adhesive-Fixing-For-Caravan-Motorhome-Solar-Panel-mounting-/380646058564?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item58a045ea44[/url]

a bit pricey but excellent stuff.

    Hope this helps.

  • I was ready to offer advice and sympathy on hanging a large mirror, OP, but actually you can pity me instead; we've just hung an antique mirror that's 5 feet tall and in a gesso and wood frame that weighs about as much as a small car.

The process involved 1 inch bolts in the wall, gallons of sweat and a lot of shouting from DH to 'brace yourself and don't let go'.

    Never again.
