Question : What are your aspirations for the future?

Ok been shortlisted to a stage where I have to answer some questions

One I have no idea about is:

What are your aspirationsfor the future?

Well as I have no job currently I have no career goal or aspirations so what can I say? I think its presumptuous to say I want to manage a team of people again or something similar as I am in no position to say that.

    Of course you have aspirations for the future.... what about getting a job, working for a forward thinking company, building a working relationship that will be mutually beneficial to both parties, in the short term I want to work hard and prove to the company I was the correct person for the role, in the medium term I hope to develop myself / my team to help the business achieve its goals, in the long term I hope that I have built enough credibility to be considered for a promotion in order that I can put into action all that I have learned in my previous roles and this role ....

  • Say something along the line of you've had x years employment doing x, y, z and you aspire to progress to similar despite the challenges you currently face.

    The thing is I don't aspire to a similar job and there is no point saying that. They would just laugh.

    good ideas but my mind is not set on any promotion as this role wont offer that.

    I no longer think that like. You cant when you have worked for over 25 years and have no job. Who knows in 10 years time I may still not have a job or be out of work again.

    I meant that's what someone would expect me to say. It's what I would say if I had a job now.

    No one would think I want a lesser role but as I have no job at the moment it's an arrogant thing to say.

    Well this is not an application as my CV has got past that part this is just 'can you give us the right answer' - I guess I can't

  • I usually go with looking to develop certain skills which are particular to that role such as an NVQ in Care or Customer Service / MA in this or that ....
    or if the job is dead-end (they're checking you won't leave as soon as something better comes along) then talk about plans / development outside work i.e going further with my second language etc.
