Hi
Moving home and would like a system that
Plays CDs & Ipod music
&
Has wireless speakers that I can use in other rooms (ideally around 4)
I don't have any music system at all at the moment (apart from playing from a USB on my TV) so am not tied into any system and am starting from scratch.
I have researched SONOS (but doesn't play CDs unless I play them on a laptop which I don't want to do) but can't find anything else.
Any help would be appreciated

What budget are you looking at, as I think to do what you want, things might get expensive?
I've got round the issue by buying a couple of these, one for the kitchen, one for the dining room.

For living room, I got one of these to link to the surround system (blueray player).

All our CDs are ripped to the main desktop PC and from there, my family put whatever music they want onto their phones / tablets. This means someone can listen to their music, with their playlists, in any of the rooms with the bluetooth kit. My wife even wants one for the bathroom now, but I'm obviously not having a mains powered device in there. Might look at a rechargeable unit.0 -
Not very MSE I know, but the budget it .. whatever it costs. This is a one off expense for us which we have been putting off until we move so unless we think the costs will be coming down significantly (like many IT items) we will purchase what we need. I too would love a speaker in the bathroom (must be a girl thing :-) ).
Thanks

The Sonos system is excellent, but it (like most) require you to rip your CDs to a hard drive somewhere on your network (whether that is a laptop or seperate external storage drive). You can then have up to 32 different speaker (including the Play1 which can be used in bathrooms) playing 32 different pieces of music, radio stations etc, and it can be hooked up to your TV too, so if you want a good wireless surround sound, you can have it.
Alternatively, you go down the bluetooth root, but that will have limitations on control and distance, i.e. if you have an old house with thick walls, you might not get signal from the back of it to the front.
We are building up a Sonos system in the house, but use a bluetooth speaker (using a mobile phone as the music/radio source) when we're in the garden.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

I've used a Sonos system for some years now and thoroughly recommend it. In addition to what has been said above it has the advantage of syncing the same piece of music through all your speakers wherever they are in the house - no time/sound lag issues.
If you don't like the idea of ripping your cd's onto a pc (mine are on a nas drive linked to the router), then there is the option of signing up with a streaming service such as Spotify (£9.99 per month) or Napster (£5 per month). Both have millions of tracks to choose from and you can either play full albums or setup your own playlists of tracks on Sonos to play these. Sonos supports a number of streaming services
Another option is internet radio with tens of thousands of stations from around the world. My favourite is Pittsburg Jazz which is transmitted at a very high quality but you just as easily have your local radio station. This is all free.
Hope this helps.0 -
You can link an amp and cd player to Sonus easily enough0
