Returning Goods With No Receipt!

Last Saturday I bought a heated car seat from my local Lidl for £17.99. It is faulty in that it only partially heats up.

I have been in touch with the Lidl customer services who say that I can exchange it if I provide proof of purchase.

I've lost the receipt! What can I do?

How did you pay for it? If it was on a card can you get hold of a statement to show the transaction?

If you paid by cash, and still can't find the receipt, then you are really at the mercy of Lidl and any goodwill they offer.

Buy another one and return the faulty one?

Things like this show what level of customer service your going to get.

I bought a pond pump from a small local garden centre, It died 6 months before the warranty. Found several receipts from the same shop but they had faded.
Figures were just visible. I knew the pump was £30 ish. So took several receipts with purchases around that value and said its one of them.

They looked and laughed and gave me a brand new pump complete with all the extras you get in the box. I thought they would just swap the pump but no they gave me the entire kit.

Sometimes it's worth paying that bit extra for and use smaller local shops.

If you know the date, approx time and amount (amount on receipt, not of the item), you could ask your local Lidl if they can look up their copy of the receipt in their records.

They dont have to do this so be polite when asking.

    Thats fraud isn't it?

Also they only need to give refund/replacement/repair so even if they bought the idea they may not get the desired result.

If its returned without being accepted, the customer can insist on a refund instead of a repair/replacement.

    Acceptance occurs by:
    1) telling them you accept it
    2) doing something with it thats inconsistent with you not being the owner or
    3) after a reasonable time has passed without you rejecting it.
