I am sorry for your loss. Your life has changed hugely and you will hopefully find interesting things to fill it with be they paid work or not. Of course you have been 'working' very hard caring all these years and as already explained it is a N.I. issue and bad word choice but I understand why you were furious.
Have a deep think about what you might enjoy. I think voluntary work may be ideal initially at least and you will meet new people too. I wonder if a bereavement group like CRUSE might also help you cope with the initial grief and emptyness. Could you take a holiday perhaps to clear your head ready to start over?

What a lovely thing to say! Thank you. I am so grateful for all the good advice I've received on this site, that I try to do the same. I know that for so many carers, the huge void left, when they lose the person they've cared for, can be quite frightening.
